To start with I’ll use my now infamous tactic of a paraphrased quote. This time from Victor Hugo: “No army can withstand the strength of a course rep whose time has come.”
So stand down Vladimir Putin, Jarrad’s here.
Well, the end of our first year studying journalism at Lincoln has almost arrived. I’ve loved almost every minute of our course, but more importantly I’ve loved absolutely every minute of getting to know my course mates. I feel very privileged to know and to have spoken to so many fantastic people.
That’s the soppy bit over with, so now it’s time to start talking about being a course rep. This year, I’ve taken every opportunity I can (even on nights out sometimes) to gather feedback from students about how they're getting on and what the course is like for them.
We’ve all had some tricky moments this year whether it be course issues or personal issues. I have consciously tried to make myself as approachable as possible and those that have sought my help would say I have done a very good job for them. Remember that I do what I think is right, not what is convenient.
I genuinely feel like you are all my friends which is why I want to continue as a course rep. I want to help with any issues that arise and being a course rep puts me in the best possible position to work towards a positive outcome for you.
There is a fair amount of work to do in order to make the course rep system better for you. That’s something I’ve observed this year and I hope our new school rep Danyal Khan will facilitate the needed changes.
In year two, I will be pushing for better equipment, more useful lectures/less useless lectures and bigger and better names coming to guest lecture on a more regular basis.
As well as this, I will continue to suggest new ideas as issues arise and also campaign for a better way for you to be able to connect to your reps and push for change with an online petition-style section on blackboard.
