Whenever Christmas comes around, old wounds are re-opened with the annual debates over which Christmas song is the best.
Slade, Wizzard, The Pogues, Wham. The same songs and the same debate year in, year out.
And as good as they are, we all need to spice things up every now and again - even at Christmas time.
So here are five underappreciated Christmas bangers. Whether you've heard them before or not, they're sure to be added to your Christmas playlists after you've checked them out below.
1. Darlene Love - All Alone On Christmas
This is possibly my favourite Christmas song of all time - rivalling The Pogues' Fairytale of New York - yet it's so little known of. In fact, it's probably been listened to millions of time by virtue of the fact it features in the film 'Home Alone 2'. Give it a listen and get it on that playlist!
2. Wendy and Lisa ft. Seal - Closing Of The Year
This song is little-known but has an amazing backstory. Co-penned by Hans Zimmer (the guy behind some amazing movie soundtracks including Pirates of the Caribbean), the song was the theme for the 1992 Christmas film 'Toys' - starring the likes of Robin Williams, Michael Gambon, Joan Cusack, Robin Wright and Jamie Foxx. I love this song - watch the film too!
3. Kylie Minogue - Every Day's Like Christmas
Good modern Christmas songs are a rarity. Don't ask me why, they just are. This, however, is an exception.
4. Bette Midler - From A Distance (Christmas Version)
I love the subtle sampling of a number of Christmas carols within this song. I'd never heard of it until this year but I'll certainly be listening to it every Christmas from now on.
5. The Wombles ft. Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be A Wombling Merry Christmas Every Day
Last, and probably least, is a Christmas classic with a Wombling remix to it. It's bad but that's what makes it so damn good. Embrace your inner immaturity - go on!
